| The
Harrison Hotel Harrison Hot Springs
Here's the granddaddy of all hot springs resorts, and
certainly one of the most popular ones in the West. Harrison offers just
about anything one could want: swimming soaking, golfing, boating, tennis
and fine dining. And, if you want to be totally pampered, you can soak in
the Roman pools and enjoy a relaxing massage.
Before the resort was built, a natural mineral water
sprang from the ground at the south shore of Lake Harrison. The original
hotel was built in 1885 to take advantage of the mineral waters. It burned
down and the present hotel was built in 1926. Since then a modern tower
(with sweeping views of the lake) has been added. Through it all, the same
natural water supplies the large outdoor swimming pool, indoor pool and Roman
baths for soaking.
A word of warning: The hotel and dining room are
expensive, especially for a family. One way to enjoy Harrison is to take
advantage of the day-use facilities and stay nearby. A number of
modestly-priced restaurants, motels, and an RV campground are within walking
distance of the Harrison Hotel.
